Bernards Girls Place 3rd and Boys Place 5th at Colonial Hills Conference Championships
Kelly deMarrais tied for girls high point in leading Bernards to a third place finish at the Colonial Hills Conference Championships at Newark Academy on January 21, 2005. The girls finished behind Mountain Lakes and Pingry, after managing to stay ahead of Pingry until the breaststroke. Pingry was ahead of Bernards by one point going in to the final relay, which Pingry won. Kelly, a junior, won the 200 and 500 free, which were her 5th and 6th individual conference titles, and also anchored the 200 and 400 free relays, which both finished second. Freshman Jamie Hepburn tied for 7th place in total points scored, as she secured 2nd place in the IM and 3rd in the 500. She was also on the 400 free relay and led off the 3rd place medley relay. Another frosh, Julie Farrell, placed 4th in the 50 and 5th in the 100, and swam on the 200 and 400 free relays. The 400 free relay posted a qualifying time for the Meet of Champions.
Erin Hepper finished 7th in the 200 and 5th in the fly and swam on the medley and 200 free relays. Julie Murphy placed 10th in the 200 and swam on all three relays. Senior captain, Kellyn Hepper placed 11th in both the 500 and the breast and was also on the medley relay. Other point scorers for Bernards were Jenna Meyers (10th in the IM and 100), Allissa Cembrook (11th in the 50), and Emily Clayton (11th in the fly).
The boys finished in 5th place, outscoring Newark Academy and Boonton. Brendan Lawson placed 4th in the 50 and 3rd in the 100, Russell Kostelak finished 6th in the IM and 5th in the 500, John Crerand finished 7th in the 200 and back, and Eric English was 8th in the 50 and 9th in the breast. All four swam on the 6th place medley relay and Brendan, Russell, John, and KC Tullo swam on the 3rd place 400 free relay. The 200 free relay of KC, Mariano Agnese, Doug Bell, and Eric finished in 7th place. This was the highest finish ever for the BHS boys.
