Kelly deMarrais is State Champion in 200 Free and Sets 2 School Records
The Bernards swim team had a great showing at the New Jersey Meet of Champions on March 6 and 7 at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. All four girls who swam (Grace deMarrais, Kelly deMarrais, Erin Hepper, and Julie Murphy) achieved All-State honors (top 16). Soph Kelly deMarrais brought home the state title in the 200 free with a new school record time of 1:53.28. She also set a new school record of 5:04.78 in the 500 free with a third place finish. Senior Grace deMarrais finished 6th in the 200 free and 9th in the 500 free. Her time of 5:11.39 in the 500 lowered her best BHS time, which ranks #3 on the all-time BHS list.
The deMarrais sisters combined with freshmen Erin Hepper and Julie Murphy to place 15th in the 200 free relay and 14th in the 400 free relay. The 200 free relay time of 1:44.81 places this relay 4th on the all-time BHS list.
Freshman Brendan Lawson swam a personal record 22.98 in the 50 free, which improved on his #2 all-time BHS swim. Brendan is now just 0.47 seconds off the school record.
