Bernards Sets 4 New School Records at New Jersey Meet of Champions
The Bernards girls showcased their incredible talents at the New Jersey Meet of Champions on March 8 and 9 at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology. The deMarrais sisters and the Skoda sisters combined for a third place finish in the 200 medley relay, and a second place in the 400 freestyle relay. Catherine Skoda, Nori Skoda, Grace deMarrais, and Kelly deMarrais just missed the school mark of 1:51.25 (set by Catherine, Nori, Lesley Barnet, and Alexis Skoda in 2001), finishing in 1:51.76, but came back to smash the 400 free relay mark with a blistering 3:38.68. (The previous mark was 3:40.71, set in 1999 by Lesley Barnet, Lauren Kristensen, Julie Meyers, and Alexis Skoda).
In the individual events, Catherine Skoda placed 2nd in the 100 free and 4th in the 100 back, establishing new school records in both events. Catherine broke her sister Alexis's record of 53.33 (which she set when she won the Meet of Champions in 2001), and lowered her own standard of 59.52 in the back. Kelly deMarrais lowered her own record in the 200 free with a 4th place 1:55.26. Kelly also placed 11th in the 100 free. Grace deMarrais won the consolation heat of the 200 free with a very fast 1:57.99, and Nori Skoda finished 10th in the 100 breast at 1:09.01 (1:08.74 in the prelims).
