Kelly deMarrais Wins 200 Freestyle at Meet of Champions
Earns 7th and 8th All-State Titles

Brendan Lawson Breaks School Record for 50 Free

Kelly deMarrais finished out her amazing high school career with her second career Meet of Champions victory in the 200 free.  Kelly was seeded second going in to the finals after swimming a 1:54.75.  In the finals, she took a commanding lead at the 50 and never relinquished it as she swam to a 1:53.08 new school record, erasing her own record from her Meet of Champions time in 2004.  Kelly also placed 5th in the 100 backstroke with another school record, and personal best, 58.68.  These two swims were Kelly's 7th and 8th (out of a possible 8) all-state (top 16) swims in her career.  Freshman Mary deMarrais swam in the 200 and the 500 free as well.  In the 200, Mary also earned All-State honors with a 16th place 1:59.31, which places her in the #5 all-time Bernards list.  Mary's 5:22.23 placed  22nd, but improved on her #4 all-time Bernards time.

The two deMarrais sisters also anchored the 200 and 400 free relays, which placed 22nd and 10th respectively.  Julie Murphy and Erin Hepper led off the 200, while Julie Farrell and Jamie Hepburn led off the 400.  The 200 free relay, with a 1:44.70 claimed the #3 all-time Bernards swim, while the 400 took the #4 spot.  Bernards also qualified a 200 medley relay (Jamie, Julie F, Erin, and Julie M), which placed 42nd.  All six girls recorded best times for this season.

Brendan Lawson qualified in both the 50 and the 100.  Brendan swam a personal best time of 22.36 to break the school record of 22.51, set by James Meyers in 1998.  This was good enough for the second alternate spot for finals (18th).  Brendan also turned in a very fast 49.61 in the 100 free, which places him in the #2 all-time BHS spot, behind Scott Armstrong's 49.14 from 1998.
