Lawson Sets School Record in the 100 at Meet of Champions
Mary deMarrais and Jamie Hepburn both posted personal best performances at the Meet of Champions on March 3 and 4 at the Gloucester Institute of Technology. Jamie lowered her top 5 time in the 500 to a very strong 5:20.95 which placed her 17th (top 16 make All-State). Mary had a fantastic showing, as she finished with two 10th place finishes in the 200 (1:57.88) and the 500 (5:13.49), earning her All-State honors. Her time in the 200 moves her to the number 3 all-time spot for Bernards, surpassing sister Grace, who swam a 1:57.99 in 2003. Grace still holds the number 3 spot in the 500 as Mary lowered her number 4 time to within 2.1 seconds of Grace's time.
Brendan Lawson shattered Scott Armstrong's 9 year old 100 free record or 49.14 with a blistering 48.72 as he also earned All-State honors with his 10th place finish at the Meet of Champions. Brendan also placed 15th in the 50 with a 22.62 (22.51 in prelims). This was a very strong showing for the three Bernards swimmers who qualified for this prestigious meet.
